Creating Web Pages

Web Pages are a specific type of content that can exist within a website. Web Pages contain the text content of a site and provide a means for users to navigate through content that is related and linked. The logical location of Web Pages makes a site usable or confusing. It is important to always map out exactly how content will be located on the website and how each Web Page is accessed.

Web Pages can be created anywhere within the site, as long as the logged in user has access to that section (folder).

To create a Web Page do the following (assuming the user has permission):

  1. Navigate to the location of where you want to create a Web Page on the site and click the folder icon () to enter Edit Mode at that specific location of the site. If the folder does not exist, create a folder at the proper location.
  2. Click on the 'add new item' drop-down link on the folder actions just below the tabs to the right.
  3. Click on Web Page
  4. On the Identity tab enter the Web Page name (ID) of the new page. This name identifies this Web Page as a URL. See Naming a Web Page for valid characters and best practices.
  5. Next, add a Title for this Web Page. The title is what the user will see at the top of the content section of this page. Make the title simple but descriptive for the content you are adding.
  6. Optionally give a description of this page. The description field helps with searches.
  7. Select a template to apply to this Web Page. See Using Web Page Templates for more details.
  8. Click Save.

You will then be on the Edit Web Page tab for this Web Page. Click on the Edit button to edit that section of the Web Page. Make sure to always click the Save button on each of the sections you are editing.
