Working With Web Pages

Plan Web Pages First!

Before you start adding Web Pages to a site, think about how the new Web Page content contributes to the site. This will help you understand where the Web Page should be added and how that page should be linked to. Poor planning of placement can lead to a nightmare of scattered content to manage down the road. Think ahead now.

Suggested Guidelines
When adding a Web Page ask yourself the following questions:

  • What content will this Web Page present to the viewer?
  • Where should this Web Page be located on the site?
  • Where are the links that take users to this Web Page?
  • Is this Web Page necessary or is the content somewhere else on the site already?
  • Does this Web Page serve as a Menu or 'Landing Page' for linking to the main content of a section?

Adding folders for Web Pages
Folders capture all items that Web Pages can use and link to, including images, files, and other Web Pages. It is almost always smart to create a new folder for each Web Page that represents its own idea of content on the web site. Adding a folder allows you to add the default Web Page with the name index_html, as well as images, photos and other files that this page might reference.
